About the company

Kurasa is a digital platform that enables teachers to easily perform classroom curriculum tasks increasing their efficiency in teaching.

Company Overview

The inefficiency of traditional formative assessment methods is affecting over 12 million learners and more than 300,000 teachers in Kenya. Manual assessments delay the identification of learning gaps, hampering personalized interventions and diminishing learning outcomes. Kurasa's platform offers a transformative solution by providing real-time insights into student performance, enabling immediate and effective interventions. This not only reduces educators' workload but also significantly enhances the educational journey for millions of students by ensuring their learning needs are promptly addressed.

Market Opportunity

The Kenyan education market is ripe for digital transformation, with Kenya and most East African governments' push towards the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) spotlighting the urgent need for innovative educational technologies. Over 10.4 million students were enrolled in primary schools in Kenya, over 300,000 teachers, and approximately 18 million students at pre-primary, primary, and secondary levels. The Kenyan Edtech market is estimated to be worth over US$ 413 million, and is part of a broader African EdTech market that expected to reach US$ 7.2 Billion by 2032.

Product Description

Through Kurasa, educators access and customize lesson plans aligned with the competency-based curriculum, aided by resources and templates that simplify the planning process. Educators then conduct daily assessments for learners using various question formats to gauge student understanding of specific competencies. The platform provides immediate feedback on student performance, allowing educators and guardians to monitor progress closely and identify areas for improvement in real time. Additionally, the platform tracks student progress over time, utilizing this data to suggest personalized learning activities tailored to individual needs.

Business Model

Kurasa is a B2B business model and users primarily include teachers and guardians who utilize the platform to monitor and support students' progress. Revenue is from tiered payment, with the classroom serving as the licensing unit. Payments are made by school owners on a per-school-term basis.

Ownership

The co-founders own the entire Company, William, 60%, and Daniel, 40%.
